Positive reaction to campaign for Qatari Public Diplomacy

Doha: The promotional campaign for “Qatari Public Diplomacy in Latin America” concludes, launched by the Global Public Diplomacy Network, which is chaired by the Cultural Village Foundation “Katara”, with the participation of a select group of ambassadors, diplomats, media persons, and sports and art stars in Latin America, together with the involvement of major news corporations, TV broadcasters, and media groups. 

In this light, H E Oscar León González, the Cuban Republic ambassador to Qatar, was pleased by the promotional campaign for Qatari public diplomacy, which is led by Katara Public Diplomacy Centre, in Cuba and Latin American countries. His excellency asserted that the campaign contributes to raising historical bilateral relations between the friendly nations, in addition to the role it plays in strengthening close cooperation in all fields, and remarked that Qatar and Cuba observe the same principles of achieving peace and respecting international law. 

Furthermore, the ambassador recalled the many historical stances that took place between State of Qatar and Republic of Cuba highlighting the appreciation the Cuban nation has for those stances of the Father Amir and the mutual high level visits that contributed to enhanced cooperative relations between Qatar and Cuba in all fields.

The Cuban ambassador also commended the pivotal role that Qatar plays in finding solutions to disputes and conflicts, also valuing the efforts Doha has undergone to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus internationally, and valued Doha’s contribution to supporting the efforts of several countries in this field, in the forefront of which was helping the Cuban Republic provide medical and protective supplies to alleviate the impact of the Covid-19 virus. Furthermore, Ambassador highlighted the excellent health cooperation between Cuba and Qatar that consolidated in particular over the last two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Additionally, the Cuban ambassador valued the efforts undergone by the Katara Public Diplomacy Centre during the launching of this promotional campaign to support international dialogue. The campaign — that includes several nations from Latin America — has chosen Cuba as the first country to join this initiative. He also expressed pride in Cuba being a part of this initiative

And the ambassador added: “We support Katara Center’s initiative in its promotional campaign of Qatari public diplomacy in Cuba and Latin American countries and I recognize as well its exceptional value globally for promoting friendly relations and peace among people.” His Excellency also pointed that the campaign has received far-reaching positive reaction in Cuban media such as the Cuban TV and Cuban press together with the warm welcome on the part of Cuban people for this initiative.

The Cuban ambassador also commended the active role the initiative upholds in strengthening the relations in Latin America and its support for international dialogue and its potential impact on tourism in Cuba, affirming that public diplomacy is an important tool for communication between nations and for bringing them together and to familiarize and introduce them to each others’ cultures. 

He added: “We value the efforts of Katara and the Global Public Diplomacy Network in strengthening the relations between the Cuban and Qatari nations and I observe the fruits of these efforts in introducing the Cuban people to Qatar and its Culture, especially in light of the nearing of the World Cup 2022.”

The promotional campaign for Qatari public diplomacy, launched by the Global Public Diplomacy Network in Cuba and the countries of Latin American under the supervision of Engineer Darwish Ahmed Al Sheebani Secretary General of the Global Public Diplomacy Network, includes broadcasting programmes about the overall renaissance observed by Qatar and the achievements it attained in numerous fields, the historical and exceptional bilateral relations between Doha and Havana, in addition to broadcasting specialised movies about the initiatives launched by the Global Public Diplomacy Network chaired by the Cultural Village Foundation “Katara”.
